For & Against: Art, Politics And The Pamphlet Friday 26 & Saturday 27 May


For & Against: Art, Politics and the Pamphlet is a two day event of symposium, performances, presentation, exhibition and the production of a series of new pamphlets.   The first day will take the form of a symposium featuring presentations and rants by a wide variety of artists and pamphlet makers.  Day two will then take over the town’s Victorian park, museum and library with a series of performances, workshops, processions, exhibitions and music.


Highlights include:


  • An exhibition of political pamphlets
  • Turner prize nominated artist Ciara Phillips creating printed wearable slogans
  • Make your own pamphlet in a day
  • Artist Ruth Beale will offer a one to one performance while you have a reduced price haircut
  • Rory Pilgrim has developed a new performance working with Reba Maybury writer and founder of the radical interdependent publishing house, Wet Satin Press
  • Patrick Goddard has created a new sound work for the bandstand
  • A variety of stalls featuring pamphlets and various workshops


DAY 1 – Public Symposium

This event includes presentation, performances and rants. Artist-taxi-driver, Mark McGowan provides a keynote presentation and is followed by offerings from Ruth Beale, Tim Brennan, Dean Brannagan, Shirley Cameron, Ben Campkin, Chiara Dellerba, Andrea Gibson, Joanne Lee, radical rethink, Rebecca Ross, Miffy Ryan, Evelyn Silver, Jane Tormey, Mo White, Gillian Whiteley and Andrew Wilson.

DAY 2 – Pamphlet Day
Saturday 27 May
Loughborough locations – Charnwood Museum, Loughborough Library and Queens Park

This day-long event takes place across sites in Loughborough. It will involve live performative elements by artists commissioned by Radar and a ‘market’ of stalls where public participation in the making of new pamphlets, zines and protest paraphernalia is actively encouraged. Join us!
