Charnwood Borough Council is undertaking a car parking review which proposes significant parking fee increases, specifically to the overnight and Sunday tariff. This review is currently out for consultation.
The proposed changes are listed in full on the Council website page.
Proposed changes include an introduction of after 6pm charges which will have a direct impact on the town’s evening economy & leisure and hospitality sectors.
It also proposes the removal of the fixed 0.60p daily fee on a Sunday to a hourly rate which would see a full daily charge increase to £10 (Granby Street).
- This will make Loughborough THE most expensive place to park on a Sunday in the region
- It will have a negative impact on the growth of Sunday events
- It will have a significant detrimental effect to the local economy across ALL sectors
- It will reduce footfall, dwell time and economic spend to the town
- Parking in Loughborough will be MORE EXPENSIVE than Highcross Shopping Centre overnight or on a Sunday
We urge business members, residents and town centre users to complete their consultation survey to submit their objections.
The deadline for responses is 11.59pm on Sunday, 20 October 2024.
Please note that your objections should be justified and show evidence to support your views. We have prepared 2 submission documents which will provide you with evidence as follows: (Please feel free to use any of the information supplied – Word Documents available upon request)
- Loughborough BID’s Consultation Letter Submission
- Leicestershire Promotion’s Consultation Letter Submission
We would urge ALL town centre users to submit an objection before the deadline of 11.59pm on Sunday 20th October if we want to make any difference to this decision.
Please contact Lez Cope-Newman, Chair of Loughborough BID or Lisa Brown , BID Manager, if you’d like to discuss in more detail.
